Do you remember the FUELL Fllow electric motorcycle? Those extra "l"s were there for a reason back in April, 2019. This is Erik Buell's latest creation, and if we know anything about the man, it's that he never quits.
We found one of the many patents FUELL has applied for regarding technologies involved in Fllow's creation towards the end of 2019. If interested potential buyers have $500 to spare, the bike is already available for pre-order on the FUELL website. Deliveries were expected to begin around the end of 2020, we understood-and now, what happened next is an immediate stab in the heart.
Pandemics sidelined FUELL's plans, like everyone else's. Nothing was going as planned, from the supply chain to investors. Despite everyone else going through the same thing, the nascent electric endeavor managed to survive. This is why FUELL will re-launch the Fllow electric motorcycle in November, 2022-or rather, pre-launch it on a new platform called Prelaunch.com.
FUELL hopes to secure 3,000 reservations for the Fllow at $200 each. The bike will then be brought to full production through a crowdfunding campaign if successful. By 2024, FUELL says, deliveries should begin to reach customers.
What Are the Specs Like?
The FUELL Fllow utilizes a transverse flux motor, which is a patent-pending rear wheel drive motor. The Fllow is powered exclusively by this engine, which was built by FUELL. You don't need to worry about a chain or belt since it is direct-drive.
Power is claimed to be about 47 horsepower (with a 15-horsepower version available). Integrated into the chassis and positioned low up front, the battery has a capacity of 10 kilowatt-hours. The curb weight is 400 pounds.
It is claimed to have a range of about 150 miles, or 240 kilometers, in urban areas. With FUELL's onboard CCS charging capability, your battery can be fully charged within 30 minutes.
The company claims that you can charge it in 15 minutes if you charge it between 20 and 90 percent of a full charge, as most EV users do. If you're going to leave it parked for a while, you can of course plug it into a regular wall outlet at home for a slower charge.
As you might expect from an electric motorbike in 2022, the FUELL Fllow also comes with a connected dashboard. A few of the features mentioned in FUELL's literature include linked intelligent ABS, walk and reverse assistance, eTraction control, blind spot detection, and front and rear collision warning.
As technology and your needs as a rider evolve, FUELL says the Fllow is designed to be modular, so individual components, like the battery pack and rear wheel motor, can be upgraded over time.
How does the FUELL Fllow design differ from other electric motorcycles on the market in 2022? Onboard storage space of 50 liters! Up front, there's a frunk that sits over the battery and can be accessed from the top -- where a gas tank would be on a piston-powered bike. There is reportedly room for a full-face helmet, as well as any bag you like to carry your stuff in (that is reasonable in size). One thing I wish most electric two-wheelers had is more onboard storage. I know batteries have to go somewhere, but still, they're quite large at the moment. FUELL's design team did an excellent job.
Can you tell me how much it costs?
It is interesting to note that FUELL stuck to its original pricing target from 2019 with Prelaunch.com. A target price of $11,995 remains in place for 2022. On the Prelaunch.com platform (which we'll include a link to in our Sources), you can reserve a FUELL Fllow for $200, but you also get $2,000 off the total MSRP—and you get a FUELL Carbon modular helmet from French helmet manufacturer Veldt. A total of four colors will be available for the Fllow: Silver, Red, Blue, and Black.
