The SWM Custom V1200 Cruiser will make its debut at EICMA

SWM Custom V1200

The SWM motorcycle manufacturer specializes in enduro and dual-sport models. Its products can be found in select European markets, and until recently, it focused primarily on small and mid-displacement two-wheelers. SWM, however, made it clear that it wanted to broaden its horizons at EICMA 2022.

A brand new heavyweight cruiser called the Custom V1200 was on display at the Milan motor show. As a product of Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Shineray, which acquired the rights to SWM back in 2014, the Custom V1200 is clearly a step in the premium direction, and possibly hints at more high-displacement SWMs to come.

Recent headlines have focused on Chinese-made cruisers like those made by Loncin, QJ Motor, and Benda. What do we think of SWM's interpretation of a big V-Twin cruiser?

SWM Custom V1200

First of all, the large, 1,202cc, air-cooled V-Twin engine bears resemblance to the classic V-Twin engines that powered the Harley-Davidson Sportster line for many years. Right down to the 45-degree cylinder angle, the SWM Custom 1200V engine shares a lot of similarities with Milwaukee engines.

Additionally, the engine produces 81.6 horsepower, which, when coupled with the bike's five-speed manual transmission and chain final drive, allows it to achieve a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour (125 miles per hour).

A steel double-cradle frame, telescopic fork, twin rear spring/shock absorbers, and 16-inch rims on both ends make up the bike's underpinnings. At the front, there are twin floating calipers, and at the rear, there is a single disc brake.

With a seat that's just 715 millimeters off the ground, the Custom V1200 has very accessible dimensions. A digital instrument cluster and full LED lighting are also included. The bike remains barebones other than that. There is no information about pricing or availability yet.
