In January 2021, Sondors surprised everyone when they announced the Metacycle, a bike with highway speed and a $5,000 price tag. Despite this, things haven't been smooth sailing for Sondors since then.
Due to industry-wide supply chain issues and resource shortages, the company expects delivery to begin in Q4 2021. It has been a while since Metacycles have been released and the holidays have passed.
Interestingly, the brand reappeared in June 2022, saying it had received initial shipments of models and would ship them to customers immediately. Sondors has just announced that the first Metacycle deliveries are currently only available to US customers, despite the fact that it has been five months since the last update.
All US units are expected to reach customers by the end of 2022, according to the Malibu, California-based company. The company has yet to set a timetable for European distribution.
Powered by an 8 kW (11 hp) permanent magnet distributor motor, the Metacycle delivers 108.7Nm of torque. The powertrain can produce 14.5 kW (20 hp) and 162.7 Nm of torque momentarily (for overtaking, for example).
A top speed of nearly 100km/h is achieved with Standard Drive mode, while a top speed of 128km/h can only be achieved for short periods of time with Sport mode.
Users should expect a range of 100km from the 4kWh lithium-ion battery under ideal driving conditions, but Sondors claims 128km under ideal conditions. Although the city bike is aimed at both beginners and experienced riders, it weighs 136kg and has a saddle height of 800mm.
There is still an introductory price of $5,000 for Metacycle, but the upgraded model now costs $6,500. However, new customers can choose between Arctic white and Supermassive black color combinations, even if they have to wait until 2023 to receive their bikes.
