The umpteenth photo of a new KTM in development has leaked, and this time it's an SMT.
Recently, we saw photos of various future KTM models in road testing, including a tall 1290 with 17-inch wheels.
Reports talked about the 1290 SMC, but other media called it SMT - the motorcycle does not exist yet, but everyone becomes its godfather. It probably won't be just one model, but something similar to the 990 SMT that we also knew in Greece from 2009 to 2013.
German Motorrad just released photos of yet another SMT-like implementation, on a bike that is clearly more advanced and smaller in volume than the 1290 SMC/SMT.
KTM intends to take on rival bikes like the BMW F900XR, Yamaha Tracer 9 and others with its 890 SMT.
However, it could just as well be a 990 SMT. We've already seen photos and information on the 990 Duke, Adventure, and RC at different times, all hinting at a new larger displacement generation for the 890 family. These photos do not show the upper part of the cylinders, where the biggest visual differences are.
Furthermore, KTM has four more Adventure bikes to present by January 2023, and this could very well be one of them.
From Duke to the Adventure of the future, the spy shots show vertical projectors instead of KTM's current headlight. Interestingly, only the big SMT wears the triangular headlight in this batch of photos.
In the end, however, there is a flurry of new models at KTM, and it's not just rumours, since there are photos showing the prototypes on the road (which, by mysterious coincidence, are usually captured quite clearly by camera lenses who happen to be walking around).
With several new models and a total reboot for some existing lines, the Austrian company is clearly preparing for an all-out attack. We haven't forgotten that somewhere in Asia there is also a range of 490 twin cylinders...
