Almost all electric motorcycles have a single-speed drivetrain, whether they are prototypes or production models.

While the twist-and-go feature is aimed at beginners, many die-hard riders don't want to give up their foot-operated gearbox, since it can drop one gear to get you out of a sticky situation in DTC. The brand-new electric motorcycle concept from Indian electric vehicle and technology startup Matter is equipped with a four-speed gearbox that gives it an old-school feel.

The rear wheel is driven by the electric motor's 589Nm of torque and 10.5kW (14.1hp). This battery has a capacity of 5 kWh and is liquid-cooled. In order for the system to perform at its best, liquid cooling is used. The electric motor and the battery are both cooled. For Matter's bike to fully charge on a simple outlet, it takes five hours.

Additionally, a fast charger will be available, but details have not yet been announced. An instrument panel with a 7-inch TFT display provides information about charging and range to the rider. Additionally, a smartphone can be connected, music can be played, and navigation can be performed.

Additionally, it has a reverse gear that facilitates parking, and is tested under extreme temperatures, from -10 to +55 degrees Celsius. Lastly, there are three driving modes and ABS on the motorcycle.

While Matter has not yet named its electric concept, the brand plans to build the first batch of production models in Changodar, Ahmedabad. In the near future, the company plans to expand the facility's capacity to 200,000 units from 60,000 units currently.

Approximately 75% of two-wheelers sold annually in India are motorcycles, says Matter founder and CEO Mohal Lalbhai. "We decided to create an electric motorcycle with gears since most start-ups are making electric scooters," he says. "With no other major players in the division at the moment, he has a lot of room to grow."
