The electric motorcycle is here to stay, and it's here to stay for a very long time. Despite the difficulty of accepting this reality, the global motorcycle industry is embracing it with open arms. Since many countries aim to eliminate gas engines completely within a decade, manufacturers are incentivized to produce electric vehicles more than ever before.
Electric motorcycles present a lot of exciting prospects, especially for those who prefer performance-oriented machines instead of commuter scooters.
Despite the fact that there are a few electric motorcycles with performance equivalent to 650cc to 700cc motorcycles on the market, there have been several new 125cc-equivalent sportbikes and naked bikes launched. We will soon see much faster and more affordable electric motorcycles as more powerful electric powertrains are developed.
As we’re on the subject of electric motorcycles with 125cc equivalents, Yadea has just unveiled the Keeness VFD, its latest naked bike. Despite being in the electric motorcycle business since 2001, Yadea has only recently branched out into something sportier and veered away from scooters.
As far as styling goes, the Keeness isn't exactly all that special, as it looks pretty much like every other modern naked bike on the market, with pointy lines and angular bodywork.
A mid-mounted electric motor powers the Yadea Keeness, which produces a peak power output of 10 kW, or approximately 13.4 horsepower. It claims 280 Nm or 206.5 ft-lbs of torque. With two removable lithium-ion batteries, we can get 140 kilometers (87 miles) on a single charge.
Each battery pack weighs 14 kilograms and has 4.6 kWh of capacity. Like most street bikes, the Keeness has 17-inch wheels on both ends, and a five-inch LCD display to let you know what's going on.
Keeness is expected to come out early in 2023, but pricing hasn't been announced yet.
