Harley-Davidson's Sportster S is one of the newest products from its assembly line. Designed as a modern-day evocation of the legendary Sportster range, the new Sportster S is packed with technology never seen in any other MoCo machine, not least of which is the Revolution Max engine.
With liquid-cooling, electronic fuel-injection, and 121 horsepower at its disposal, the Revolution Max found in the Sportster S breaks from convention.
As a result, the Sportster is more powerful and performance-oriented. The Sportster S has enjoyed quite a bit of success in the enthusiast market, and lots of aftermarket upgrades and accessories have emerged for this bike.
Zard has turned its attention to the Sportster S with its Top Gun exhaust system. Whether the new exhaust system pays homage to the legendary movie remains to be seen, but what we do know is that it gives the all-American cruiser an Italian touch.
Changing a bike's exhaust is primarily done to improve its sound. Power gains are usually considered a bonus. Zard claims some impressive gains from just installing the exhaust, including 2.4 horsepower and 7 lb-ft of torque. The system is also nearly four kilograms lighter.
In terms of styling, the Top Gun exhaust system uses a 2-into-1-into-2 configuration, just like the stock system. The pipes and silencers are finished in a matte black finish, and the cylindrical silencers are adorned with carbon fiber end caps. The upper silencer tip is riveted with the Zard logo.
The Zard Top Gun exhaust is fully compliant with Euro 5 regulations, provided you install the supplier's dB-killer.
Zard offers a two-piece carbon fiber heat shield to complement the new exhaust system of the Sportster S, giving it a sleeker, more sporty aesthetic. Zard also launched a carbon-fiber radiator shroud, headlight cowl, and left side panel to complement the carbon heat shield.
